Gotze and Ribery back to Bayern squad

Frank Ribery and Mario Gotze of Bayern Munich have recovered from long-term injuries and will be back in the squad for Saturday's Bundesliga game against Darmstadt 98, on Friday.

Gotze and Ribery

The French winger, Frank Ribery enjoyed a brief welcome back in December after an eight-months injury break, but was ruled out again only days after his return.

Germany international Mario Gotze has also been out since injuring an adductor muscle during an Euro 2016 qualifier in October.

"This is very good news for us," Guardiola said, whose treble-chasing team take on Juventus in the Champions League next week. "We will see how long they can play."

The pair could be joined in the squad by central defender Medhi Benatia, who also returned from an injury, and a new signing Serdar Tasci.

Tasci, signed from Spartak Moscow on loan, suffered a mild concussion in his first training session at Bayern and has been trying to regain fitness having not played since before the Russian winter break in November.

"He has a big personality, a good eye for the game and is good with the ball," said Guardiola. "I am happy to have him."

Bayern are eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, cruising towards a fourth record consecutive Bundesliga title but the return to fitness of Gotze and Ribery could not have come at a better time.

The Bavarians have been battling with injuries all season and are without most of their central defenders, with Jerome Boateng and Holger Badstuber among those sidelined.

Messi exceeds 300 La-Liga goals as Barca extend lead

Lionel Messi has scored past 300 La Liga goals as Barcelona moved six points to the top of the table with a 3-1 win at Sporting Gijon on Wednesday.
Messi_Dsportstech.blogspot.com

Five-time World Player of the Year struck either side of Carlos Castro’s well-worked equaliser in a three-goal burst in five first-half minutes.
Luis Suarez missed a second-half penalty, days after converting Messi’s pass from a spot-kick against Celta Vigo, but made amends with a brilliant finish for Barca’s third midway through the second half.
Barca’s closest challengers are Atletico Madrid with Real Madrid which is a further point adrift in third.
The match was postponed due to Barcelona’s commitments in the Club World Cup in December with a huge clash against fellow strugglers Real Betis to come on Saturday, Sporting boss and former Barca defender Abelardo Fernandez made nine changes to his side from the team that started Friday’s 2-2 draw with Rayo Vallecano.
Moreover in a match dominated by the European champions, it was the hosts who had the first clear opening as Alex Menendez shot wide from Barca loanee Alen Halilovic’s through ball.
Barca coach Luis Enrique also made five changes, but the star front three of Messi, Suarez and Neymar started after their incredible display in the 6-1 thrashing of Celta at the weekend.
Suarez had the first chance to extend his lead as the league’s top scorer from Neymar’s inch-perfect pass, but the Uruguayan fired straight at Ivan Cuellar.
Messi broke the deadlock with a deadly accurate drive into the bottom corner from 25 yards to become the first player ever to bring up a triple century of La Liga goals.

Song named Cameroon Coach

Former Cameroonian skipper Rigobert Song has been appointed as the head coach replacing Martin Ndtoungou Mpile who was in charge at Chan 2016 in Rwanda.
Rigobert Song_Dsportstech.blogspot.com

Song, who was announced on Thursday at a press conference that also saw Hugo Broos unveiled to the media as head coach of the senior side, will maintain the same backroom staff.
Ernest Agbor is the assistant coach while goalkeeping coach Simon Nlend and physical fitness coach Narcisse Tinkeu have retained their roles on the side.
Cameroon reached the quarterfinals at the recently concluded Chan 2016 where they lost to Ivory Coast 3-0, conceding all three goals in extra time.
The Indomitable Lions had finished top of Group B with seven points after registering two wins in the group stages, a 1-0 win over Angola in their opener before Ethiopia forced a goalless draw but a 3-1 victory over DR Congo ensured a place at the helm of the log.
The 39-year old Song, who has until recently been in charge of Chad, is expected to bring a lot of his playing experience into his new role at the helm of this side as they prepare for Chan 2018 in Kenya.
Song is the most capped player in the history of Cameroonian football with 137 appearances and has played at four World Cups including 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2010 as well as featuring at a record eight Africa Cup of Nations where he still holds the record of 35 consecutive first team games.
He won two Afcon titles with the Indomitable Lions in 2000 after beating Nigeria 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw and in 2002 they defeated Senegal 3-2 on penalties following a goalless draw.

Florence Omagbemi named Falcons coach

Former Super Falcons captain and defender Florence Omagbemi has being named as coach of the reigning African champions by the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF).

Florence Omagbemi

The football body approved the choice of an expatriate as head coach as recommended by the Technical and Development Committee.
Omagbemi will take charge of the side in acting capacity until the appointment of the expatriate coach.
The yet to be named expatriate coach will be assisted by the side’s all-time top scorer and four-time African player of the year, Perpetua Nkwocha, Ann Chiejine and Bala Mohammed as goalkeeper trainer.
The football governing body said the appointments are in line with its determination to halt the dwindling fortunes of the senior national women team.
The coaching crew's first assignment will be the second round qualifying match of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations in April against either of the West African foes, Guinea or Senegal.
Falcons were given a bye together with Ghana, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Equatorial Guinea in the first round matches of the biennial football showpiece coming up in Cameroon from November 19 toDecember 3.
Seven countries will emerge from the qualifying campaigns to be joined by the hosts, Cameroon, for the final showdown.
Coach Edwin Okon guided Nigeria to defeat Cameroon 2-0 in the final of the 2014 edition in Namibia.

Again Cavani Silences Critics

Zlatan Ibrahimovic may be Paris St Germain's top scorer but Edinson Cavani could again be the key player for the French champions in a Champions League tie against Chelsea.
Edinson Cavani

The Uruguay striker, who lost his place in the starting line-up to Lucas, got the winner in a 2-1 success over the London club in Tuesday's last-16 first leg at the Parc des Princes.
Last season, Cavani equalised in a 1-1 home draw with Chelsea before PSG went on to qualify for the last eight on away goals with a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.
After Tuesday's win, Cavani said "It was a fantastic night... We the strikers we live for scoring goals and when we do score, it's like a new lease of life".
The 29-year-old, who had scored once in all competitions this year, has been criticised by French media for lacking sharpness up front but he has made more impact than Ibrahimovic in key Champions League games in recent seasons.
On Tuesday, he scored only four minutes after coming on for the disappointing Brazilian Lucas.
"I keep saying that Edi is a player who can score a lot of goals," said PSG coach Laurent Blanc, who has consistently backed Cavani despite the doubts about his form.
"It is our role to help the players who lost confidence. We, the staff and I, have to help him, it is our duty. I have done so with other players before him."
PSG were not fully rewarded for their domination against Chelsea after enjoying 61 percent of possession and completing more than 500 passes in a Barcelona-style performance.
They were, however, boosted by the performance of midfield metronome Marco Verratti as the Italian completed 94 percent of his passes despite having just returned from a groin injury.
"He played an outstanding game," said Blanc. "He was tired by the end of the game but it's normal.
"It is, however, a very good omen for the coming weeks, especially because he did not feel any pain during the match."
PSG will visit Stamford Bridge for the second leg on March 9.

FIFA's Next President Revealed

FIFA'S next president may have arrived already two weeks before the elections was supposed to hold.

FIFA

Report came last week that Members of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, took a decision to support a particular candidate for the elections. With their 54 block votes, the single largest of the confederations, CAF can effectively determine where the next president would come from. All they need is an alliance with a confederation and a large enough number of delegates. With this the deed will be done.
Surprisingly, therefore, Report said that Africa will be voting as a block not for only the  African candidate in the race but for the President of the Asian Football Confederation, the Sheikh from Bahrain, a man steeped in the tradition and activities of FIFA under Sepp Blatter and, indeed, one over whom there is still a searchlight on his part in corruption scandals that have rocked FIFA to its foundation.
He also remains a subject of criticism and of a forensic moral audit which has been lingering and hanging over his head like an Albatross since 2011 when he was accused by human rights groups of complicity in the arrest and imprisonment of hundreds of pro-democracy athlete-demonstrators in Bahrain.
The African candidate for the FIFA election is a South African businessman, political activist and Anti-Apartheid hero, Tokyo Sexwale. He has not uttered a word yet in reaction to the report.  That, in itself, speaks volumes.
He could not have just given up his dream for no just cause or without good reason with the finishing line looming in the distance.
So what could have happened?
I watched and listened to him last week on a Supersports programme on television where he spoke glowingly about his plans for FIFA, his credentials, his global campaign and his chances of winning.
Despite his broad smiles and intelligent responses, he gave a hint of what is now playing out. He said that he would be satisfied with an outcome that returns an Asian or an African as the next president of FIFA.Mathematically, that can only happen when the two continents deliver their block votes to a single candidate from either continent.
Unfortunately, what this reveals is that football may be heading back to its old ways and to the same old faces in the corridors of football administration.
My reading of the situation is that Asia and Africa have teamed up and settled to install an Asian as next FIFA president.
I know very little about the man whose face suddenly starts to emerge and so have no comments to make except what I read in the media last week about a press conference he held in London where he presented his manifesto.
I was shocked by the size of its content. It seemed to contain only one item – a warning to all delegates that FIFA would be completely financially broke by 2018 if anyone else but him is elected its president! What a manifesto!
Suddenly, it dawned on me that the world has put the cart before the horse by conducting elections before introducing new reforms that would steer the ship of football away from the ills of the past. The FIFA elections should have come after the introduction of new reforms, not the other way round.
Such reforms would have streamlined a system that would ensure that a true democratic electoral process is followed in the elections that guarantees that the final choice of president would be the product of an unfettered, unencumbered and independent choice of the individual member federations (not block votes of confederations) devoid of the fear of reprisals for their choice, of any demands for repayment for granted favours or political loyalty to powerful elements still within FIFA.
What we would see now is likely the return to the old ways of doing things and the old faces that have tasted the forbidden fruit of absolute power under Sepp Blatter, a leader so powerful that he perpetuated himself in office, helped confederation and national presidents to remain in office also in near perpetuity, and continued to sustain a system whose byproducts are kickbacks, cult followership, servitude, impunity, blatant dictatorship, and lack of transparency and accountability.
CAF's present decision raises questions.
Did CAF meet over the choice of the right candidate? Where and when did such a meeting hold? Who voted to abandon the African candidate nominated by his country and endorsed by five others in Africa? Did any of the other contestants visit any African country canvassing for their FA president’s vote? Shouldn’t national federation presidents have sought the mandate of their local members first before mortgaging their independence and surrendering their voting right to a confederation that is not constitutionally a player in the FIFA elections?
Block voting is anathema to true democracy in FIFA. Although not illegal, yet it infringes on the fundamental right of every national federation to be independent when taking decisions on all matters, including elections. Any form of interference is unacceptable according to the statutes!
So, what is ‘block voting,’ therefore, if it is not coercion and psychological interference? This is the tool deployed by the previous FIFA leadership to keep members in line and enslaved, the same things that fueled the corruption in FIFA under Sepp Blatter.
New reforms should have come before these elections. They would have guaranteed that a new FIFA leadership emerges that cannot stay in office forever, that does not have absolute powers to do and undo, and will be accountable to the football family.
Did Africa, therefore, give up on its representative because it could not muster enough support for him from the other confederations? Or is there a powerful hand still at work within FIFA steering football away from the ongoing investigations and needing the protection of a new leadership that will repay it for this present favour?
All attention is now on Issa Hayatou, not because he is a candidate for the elections but because he is the only puppeteer seemingly powerful enough to pull the strings and install the next president.
Issa Hayatou, gifted by the elements with this unscripted opportunity to lead FIFA into the elections, and used to dictating things in CAF for almost three decades, may be preparing for a new lease life into the new FIFA dispensation?
Did he coerce the rest of Africa to sacrifice the only African candidate in order to secure his own future place and protection?
I know for sure that without Issa’s approval and directive no decision of this magnitude and with massive implications for Africa (good or bad) could have taken place in CAF where the fear of the man is the beginning of wisdom.
So, I now can reasonably guess who the next president of FIFA will be.I heard it first from Tokyo Sexwale himself. He is Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa, the young 50-year-old royal Prince from Bahrain.
